Restore & Ride Rally Coffs Harbour & District Motorcycle Restorers Club 27-29 May, 2016 – Coffs Harbour, NSW

- Report Rob Popplewell Photos Ned O’Brien

A surprising and intriguing thing evolved as the entries came in – Indians! We occasionally get one or two but this time we almost had enough for a re-enactment of Custer’s Last Stand! In real estate it’s location, location, location. For motor cycle rallies it’s weather, weather, weather and this year we hit the jackpot; three days of glorious sunshine, well almost. Saturday’s long riders got an icy wind and a brief shower on the Dorrigo Plateau.

Friday’s ride took in Sealy Lookout then Wedding Bells Drive to the Bucca Road and on to Nana Glen for morning tea at The Idle Inn café. From there on to Coramba and the 12km climb of the Eastern Dorrigo way to Ulong for lunch. Ulong is a small village and the RSL and Store café were to share the lunches roughly 50/50. Saturday had a short and long ride. The route was common to Thora (45km), where the Long riders ascended the Dorrigo mountain for a 113 km loop back to Thora. Short riders went along the Darkwood road to Guess’s Bridge for an out and back 28km ride. Lunch was served by the ladies of the Thora Hall committee. Judging was carried out on the grass terrace below the hall by Donny Sonter and Ned O‘Brien. Sunday’s ride saw us back at Nana Glen but via a different route then along the Bucca road in reverse direction to Friday to Moonee, then along the service road beside the motorway to Sandy Beach for morning tea at the “Sunken Chip” café. The rally ended with a barbeque lunch at the Sawtell rally base. All in all a successful weekend.
