TT leg­end, TV star and truck me­chanic Guy Martin says he is ex­cited at the prospect of rac­ing at the 2016 Burt Munro Chal­lenge, to be held in In­ver­cargill from Novem­ber 24-27. He plans to con­test sev­eral of the events dur­ing the four days of the Chal­lenge, be­gin­ning with the Bluff Hill Climb. Guy’s ma­chine will be the home-built turbo charged Suzuki that he con­structed to com­pete in the 2014 Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The bike be­gan life as a 1991 model GSX-R1100 but now mea­sures 1380cc and pokes out in ex­cess of 320 horse­power. Martin is also a keen and com­pe­tent moun­tain bike racer and has com­peted in the Canada to Mex­ico moun­tain bike race, the Tour Di­vide, which he did, unas­sisted, car­ry­ing camp­ing gear and sup­plies, in 18 days. Martin has raced in NZ pre­vi­ously but is look­ing for­ward to tak­ing to the ped­als again af­ter the BMC to check out the trails around Queen­stown. Guy’s aim for the week – to have fun, en­joy rac­ing his mon­ster bike and spend time at an event that was voted by Read­ers Di­gest as one of the top five motorcycli­ng events on the planet, not for its hype but for the pure essence of mo­tor­cy­cle rac­ing, the fa­cil­i­ties and the week in to­tal.
