Superior? Bah!
George Brough was a crafty old bastard. His motorcycle, the Brough Superior, was a hotch potch of bits and pieces from all over the place. Here is where the bits came from: engine; J.A.P. London, gearbox: Norton, Birmingham, wheels, Royal Enfield, forks: Draper, seat: Lycett, speedo: Smiths, carburetor; Amal, magneto: Bosch/BTH/Lucas, lights: Lucas, Miller, horn: Lucas. So all he made, maybe, was the petrol tank, frame, footrests, exhausts and mudguards. Then he had the cheek to call it the ‘Rolls Royce of Motorcycles’ and sell it for a tidy sum of money – he even tried an Austin 7 engine!
