The Manx Grand Prix

-

I had the pleasure of attending racing at Isle of Man Manx Grand Prix conducted 26th August to the 2nd September. Several Australian were there and rode well. Cameron Donald has competed there for several years now and this year he rode in the Senior Classic on Luis Gallur’s 500 Egli Vincent and a 350 7R AJS in the Junior Classic. I later had a brief chat with him and got some views on both machines. He told me that the Vincent finished 16th overall and 4th for a single cylinder machine in this event and he was able to average just over 100 mph. It is a nice machine to ride and handles well but feels that it needs to go quicker. As for the 7R AJS he had a previous ride on it in 2013 and finished 2nd. This year he finished 4th and commented it is the only steel framed machine to do over a 100 mph lap which he did on lap 2 at 100.3mph. It was the first single home and he did not have to stop for fuel. It is a pleasure to ride and is sponsored by Ripley Land Racing. The engine preparation was undertaken by Fred Warmsley. Cameron was awarded the Peter Williams Trophy for the highest placed AJS or Matchless. This trophy has a titanium conrod from the famous Tom Arter G50 usually known as Wagon Wheels. I watched this race and going past the grandstand at the start finish line it was going very fast for a 350.
