A Romsey romp at 2017 Bonanza
For many years, Romsey Racecourse north of Melbourne was home to a hugely popular Grass Track event which attracted many big names, including Bert and Gary Flood, Neil Street, John Dewhurst, Charlie Edwards, Rick and Dick Sheard and many others. Next Easter, a feature of the Shannons Insurance Broadford Bike Bonanza will be a tribute to the great days at Romsey, with many of the original solos and sidecars and riders appearing. A display will be set up near the speedway pit area with gems such as Les Lewis’ TR3 slider and Garry Chasemore’s TZ250 Romsey Special, an ex-Ivan Mauger Long Track Jawa, plus numerous Bultaco Astros and Long Track bikes. Take a look at the Romsey Grasstrack Facebook page for a great selection of photos. Organiser Rick Wason would love to hear from former competitors, officials or enthusiasts with memorabilia or bikes from the Romsey era. Contact Rick by email at rwason@bigpond.net.au or call 03 5721 2752.
For 2017, Motorcycling Australia welcomes Shannons Insurance as the naming sponsor for the Broadford Bike Bonanza. Shannons have had a high profile at the event for several years and will be expanding their involvement further next year in line with the sponsorship. "We see the Bonanza as a great event promoting motorcycling's grass roots and aimed directly at the real enthusiasts," says Belinda Douglas, Business Development Manager, Shannons Victoria. "This is exactly where Shannons' core business lies so we see our new role as a great fit with the event."
