Mackay All Bike Show

- Report Dale Kennedy

The 33rd Annual All Bike Show was held at Paxton’s on River Street Mackay, and as usual it was a ripper. The quality and variety of machinery that comes out of the local sheds is quite amazing, with each year seeming better than the year before. This year there was everything from an old Indian Chief side valve that had been converted just after WW2 in to a mobile belt drive unit for use around the farm, through to one of the quickest Nitro Harley- Davidsons in the country. At his first attempt at a full restoration on a 1969 Triumph Bonneville, Jim Gourlay won Best British and Best Per 1970 classes. Bryan Baker (who has a serious Ducati addiction) showed several of his collection with his beautiful little 1958 175 T.S. Ducati winning Best European. Bryan also had 1 of the 200 made Daytona BSA grey frame triples (which he is selling to fuel his Ducati addiction) on display. The Whitsunday VMX Club won the Best Club Display with a display of restored machinery that the average person wouldn’t let leave their lounge room let alone race on MX tracks with rocks and dirt being sprayed everywhere. The winner of Best Oriental was part of that display – Dean Nelson’s Yamaha 1973 MX250 was immaculate in every detail. Motorcycle shows seem to be an excuse to see old friends and acquaintances, it was good to see groups of young and old motorcycle enthusiasts milling around chatting. So all in all it was another great show and everyone who came along had a great time and already the next All Bike Show is being talked about.
