Guy Martin heading for The Burt

-

TT legend, TV star and truck mechanic Guy Martin says he is excited at the prospect of racing at the 2016 Burt Munro Challenge, to be held in Invercargill from November 24-27. He plans to contest several of the events during the four days of the Challenge, beginning with the Bluff Hill Climb. Guy’s machine will be the home-built turbo charged Suzuki that he constructed to compete in the 2014 Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The bike began life as a 1991 model GSX-R1100 but now measures 1380cc and pokes out in excess of 320 horsepower. Martin is also a keen and competent mountain bike racer and has competed in the Canada to Mexico mountain bike race, the Tour Divide, which he did, unassisted, carrying camping gear and supplies, in 18 days. Martin has raced in NZ previously but is looking forward to taking to the pedals again after the BMC to check out the trails around Queenstown. Guy’s aim for the week – to have fun, enjoy racing his monster bike and spend time at an event that was voted by Readers Digest as one of the top five motorcycling events on the planet, not for its hype but for the pure essence of motorcycle racing, the facilities and the week in total.
