Lap-scor­ing ‘lot­tery’?

Spare a thought for the sheer dif­fi­culty of man­u­ally lap­scor­ing 67 rac­ers over six hours on a small cir­cuit with any de­gree of ac­cu­racy. How would you en­sure that one wasn’t missed when a clus­ter of bikes flashed past the scor­ers? You could be ex­cused for think­ing it was a bit of a lot­tery. Lit­tle won­der con­fu­sion and con­tro­versy of­ten pre­vailed.
