- Report and photos David Cant

17-21 September, 2016 – Clare Valley, SA

The 60th Anniversary Rally was well attended and it seems everyone had a good time. The weather was not so kind to us with most days cold and wet. There were approximately 90 bike entrants, and 40 supporters. Interstate bikes and riders were well represented, with 36 from SA, Victoria 30, NSW 11, WA 8 and Queensland 6. Saturday 17th September was a 34km afternoon ride to Annie’s Lane Winery, wine museum and art gallery near Watervale. Sunday was Clare to Spalding for morning tea, then on to Burra for lunch, then back to Clare via Farrell Flat. Monday was Clare to Blyth for morning tea, then to Bute for lunch, a regroup in Snowtown to see the windfarm display then back to Clare. Distance 154 kms. On Tuesday it was Clare to Yacka for morning tea, then Jamestown for lunch, then visit the historic Gladstone Gaol – 200 km. Clare to Martindale Hall on Wednesday for morning tea in the Coach House and a tour of the fabulous Hall, then on to Sevenhill Winery and Church. Visits to Graham Goode’s Car Restoration business and the Model Trains were well attended. After Thursday’s ride to Saddleworth, and Eudunda, the Farewell Dinner at the Clare Golf Club was well received and everyone had a good time. Machines entered ranged from veteran through to bikes in the 1960s. Some of the early bikes included a 1909 Triumph, 1915 Favourite, and 1919 Indian Powerplus. I would like to thank the rally committee for their time and effort in making the rally a success, also to the rally sponsors – Shannon’s Insurance, Aussie Disposals and Seven- hill Winery. Also to Bob Tilbrook for the items sourced for the club auction and prizes at the farewell dinner. The local country people did a great job in providing morning teas and lunches.
