For whom the Bell tolls
Remember the Bell Moto 3 – the helmet that revolutionised motocross and speedway headwear in 1971? This was the first full-face helmet specifically created for off-road use, with an opening large enough to accommodate goggles, and a peak attached by press studs. Pretty soon, all the stars were wearing the Moto 3, and inspired many similar designs – even today’s crop of MX helmets are direct descendants. Now, the Bell Moto 3 has been recreated, with a design faithful to the original, but using modern materials. It will still do competent service as a motocross or dirt track lid, but these days, the Moto 3 is more likely to find favour with road riders who want a bit of air in the face as well as chin protection. It’s a cool looking hat, that’s for sure. The new Bell Moto 3 has an Australian RRP of $489.00 and is available from Motociclo, 95 Princes Highway, St. Peters NSW 2044.
