When you start life living in a wooden caravan in Scotland, the only way is up, and 60-year-old Tony Quinn has been heading up ever since. From near poverty to a fortune made via his company VIP Petfoods and on to his current focus, the venerable confectionary business Darrell Lea, Quinn has managed to not only build a commercial empire worth hundreds of millions, but become deeply immersed in motor sport – as a competitor and lately as the owner of Highland Motorsport Park in Cromwell (which he and his son Klark designed and built) and more recently taking over the established Hampton Downs track south of Auckland. He has also expressed a desire to own Queensland Raceway should present owner John Tetley ever wish to sell. The book is an entertaining balance behind self-developed business principles that have obviously paid off, and motor sport passion. Tony has a reputation as a straight talker and a bit of a larrikin, and this certainly comes through strongly in this book.
