The weather gods smiled favourably on the All British Day at Echunga. Un­like the pre­vi­ous week lead­ing up to the event where sev­eral days of tem­per­a­tures in the high 30s made for an un­pleas­ant time that wasn’t con­ducive to an en­joy­able ABD, Sun­day started off with much cooler weather in the low 20s. It had been ad­vised that, should the day be classed as Ex­treme Fire Dan­ger, the event would have been can­celled, and although the weather warmed up later in the day, it didn’t dent the en­thu­si­asm of those at­tend­ing this well or­gan­ised event that just keeps get­ting big­ger. Nos­tal­gia reigned supreme and the high at­ten­dance, es­ti­mated at about 5,000 – 6,000 for the day, shows how much peo­ple re­ally love the mem­o­ries of those times not far gone when mo­tor­cy­cles and cars had dif­fer­ent and iden­ti­fi­able styles and didn’t look like they came off of the same pro­duc­tion line. One change this year was that all the mo­tor­cy­cle dis­plays were grouped to­gether in­stead of be­ing spread out across the two foot­ball fields. There were dis­plays by BSA, Tri­umph and Nor­ton as well as the Vet­eran and Vin­tage Mo­tor­cy­cle Club of SA. All in all, it was a pleas­ant day out for a mod­est ad­mis­sion fee of $8. Spe­cial thanks goes to the Coun­try Fire Ser­vice, who con­trolled park­ing, ve­hic­u­lar traf­fic and peo­ple traf­fic. I en­cour­age any­one at­tend­ing these ABDs to make a do­na­tion to the CFS over and above the ad­mis­sion.

Thanks also to the gen­er­ous farmer who al­lows sev­eral of his pad­docks to be used for park­ing ev­ery year.
