Pioneer speedway

I found this photo (above right) in my grandfather Jack Prior’s photo album. It has 1926 written on the top corner and I think this would be accurate. My mother says it is probably the Woodford Showgrounds (about an hour north of Brisbane). I can remember as a youngster having a conversation with Jack about motorcycles. He told me he knew the pioneers of speedway riding. My mother has memories of some names – Frank Arthur, Charlie Spinks, Lionel Van Praag. I know little of Speedway history but thought you may find this interesting. Looks like a Norton and a Douglas on the left of the grid. Ron Spall Imbil, Queensland
