As the title suggests, this is a very comprehensive book – the work of two very experienced journalists. The majority of the book concentrates on the A-Z of Motorcycles, beginning with Gottlieb Daimler’s Einspur of 1885, through to the present day. As well as featuring in this section, Harley-Davidson has two extra sections of its own, covering the company history and the standout models over the years. H-D in fact accounts for almost half the book, which would seem to overstate the company’s significance in motorcycling’s holistic story. Still, the text is informative and the photography of a high standard. If there is one complaint it’s the size of the type, which in the captions and breakouts borders on being too small to read.
