Old Bike Australasia

Bad vibes

-

I worked for Doug Bryant Motorcycles in Canberra and raced with Ian Williams and Kevin Patton – both won Australian Short Circuit titles. I remember one incident after Kevin won the Australian 125cc Dirt Track Championship at Seymour, Victoria on a homemade slider with an AS1 Yamaha road racing motor. It was decided to change the cracked left hand crankcase, so Kevin had a nice looking bike ready for his second title at Griffith, only when we ran the bike it would not run so we changed everything back. Things now looked hopeless. Doug finally tracked the problem down to putting rubber manifolds on to dissipate the vibrations going to the carburettors. It ran perfectly and Kevin got his second 125 title. Racing always had its moments to either test victory or go off into a corner and sob. Chris Skeates Mt Ginn, ACT
