Optical illusion

The great article on the SR500 Yamaha (OBA 73) brought back many memories of when it was released and in particular the advertising poster drawn by the very talented Alan Puckett. My friends and I initially thought it was a bit of a stretch to associate the Yamaha with all those fine classic British singles, that is until you realise the chap riding the Matchy without a helmet and sporting a huge grin is actually on a twin. Well done Alan. PS, he also looks a bit like your old friend Michael Robinson. Doug Fraser. Carrum Downs, Vic. Doug. I think you will find on closer inspection the Matchless in the poster is actually a ‘sixties era 350cc unit construction single, and it is the late Michael Robinson in the saddle. All these bikes were photographed in the tiny back yard of my house in Cammeray (North Sydney) and Alan Puckett then did the illustrations in his studio in Hunters Hill. – Ed
