New circuit for Victoria?
First mooted back in 2013, a new motor sport complex near Pakenham, 60 km from Melbourne in south eastern Victoria, provisionally named Cardinia Motor Recreation and Education Park, has recently gained momentum. A development application has been submitted to Cardinia Shire Council for a new 3.7km circuit and UK firm Apex Circuit Design has been tasked with the design of the track which is aimed to meet FIA Grade 2 and FIM Grade B standards. The privately funded facility will also include an education and training complex alongside a 70 room hotel. A spokesman for the venture said the circuit would wish to attract national and international events should it receive the green light from Cardinia Shire Council. The Council is currently accepting submissions of feedback regarding their intended plans to support the development of the site. Submissions closed on June 28 with the council due to meet in July to decide whether to approve the development. If the application is successful it is expected that construction work would commence by mid 2019.
