Old Bike Australasia

A long way from home

-

While I was in the Isle of Man for the Southern 100 road races recently I would go for a pre-breakfast walk and see this (above) Victorian Historic registered Triumph. Others saw it around the Islands roads but we never found the owner. There must be a story here, or perhaps an answer in the letters page. Maybe it is, even now, up to more adventures in the Northern Hemisphere.

Thanks for the magazine, I have every copy and find it a great read. I particularly enjoyed the Frans Vandenbroek story (issue #72) on the 161 Honda. My wife had one with clip-ons, rear sets and a racing seat. A pretty bike! His article (issue #74) was even better. A small world indeed. I started riding to the Isle of Man in 1963 and never went into the pubs. Now it is very noticeable that a lot of the pubs, despite being popular are closing. The Waterfall, the pub a short distance from where the Triumph was parked, is to be demolished and replaced by four semi-detached houses.

I guess that’s progress. Del Curtis via email
