18-19 August, 2018 – Collie Motorplex, WA

Perfect weather was the order of the day and the strong field made the most of the conditions. On Saturday for the tuning and practice day there were in excess of 100 riders getting some much needed dry weather on track. Sunday had just on 90 riders and roughly 120 solos and sidecars. The sidecar field is gradually increasing with Double D Racing (David Gapes and David Mercer) debuting at this round.

For this round I chose to follow the fortunes of the P2 350/500/UNL – P3 250/350/500/UNL described by some as “The Old” and also at the other end of the spectrum “The Juniors.” Huge accolades to Junior Coach Rob Clarke, he puts in a huge amount of work getting the youngsters out on track and right now he has a great group who are keen to learn. If that isn’t enough he also competes in the 125GP class and for the past three race meetings in WA (2xHCMC & 1xMCRC) he has taken over the driving duties on sidecar #57 whilst regular pilot Sam Watson recovers from knee surgery. He also found time to swing for Jero Joyce on Saturday when regular passenger Corey Blackman couldn’t get to the track. In the P2/P3/P4 it was Gary Tenardi (1935 Ariel VF500) who showed everyone a clean pair of heels with three wins from as many starts. There are five different categories encompassed in the one race. In the Junior Club Championships Hayden Treversh (Honda 150) and Cale Haines (Honda 150) respectively wrapped up the top two spots in each of the three races in Round 5. The final race was a cracker with the top two from races 1 and 2 again finishing in that order, Just a quick mention to Pyper Kent in just her second road race meeting; she managed to bring her personal best down by an incredible 8 seconds in the final race. Well done Pyper and Rob Clarke for his tutoring. Full results from Round 5 are available on Natsoft.com.au. Round 6 of the Club Championships will be run in conjunction with the State Championships on the 22-24 September at the Collie Motorplex.
