Mostly Ariel Rally
HMCCQ Mostly Ariel Rally • 23 September 2018 – Pine Rivers. Qld
One of the pleasures of holding regular annual rallies is that you get to catch up with regular participants from other areas of the HMCCQ. So while I’m sure that, as a farmer, Rob Ritter from Toowoomba would much rather have been watching a good rain falling, yet another sunny day at least enabled us to welcome him and son Gavin back for another year of the Mostly Ariel Rally. We were also blessed with the presence of one of the original driving forces behind the event (and serious Ariel collector), Barry Deeth. We unfortunately haven’t been able to enjoy Barry’s company too much over the last couple of years as he battled with health issues, so it was a real boost to see him looking so well and enjoying the day. Fourteen Ariels – four of them from the 1930s – took pride of place among a total contingent of 33 riders. A great selection including Square Fours, a Model F, Huntmasters and several 350cc and 500cc Red Hunters including Sherri Woods’ VH racer. Following a light breakfast at the Pine Rivers Club house, the yarning stopped just long enough for Phil Watson to brief the participants before leading them off for 150km through the Moreton Bay Region. The feedback from the riders was that the route was excellent, flowing and very enjoyable. A couple of catch up points along the way kept everyone together and with no one having to use the back-up trailer. A complimentary barbeque lunch awaited the returning riders and the yarning soon started again in earnest. Many thanks to all the Pine Rivers Area, the helpers and to those who made the effort to come along – especially those who travelled in from other areas. n
