Pre ’65 Trials • 6-7 October, 2018 – Sedgwick, Victoria
The Australian trials fraternity invaded Victoria on the 6th and 7th October to celebrate the 2018 “Delecca’s” Australian Trial Championship. The event was held on the large granite outcrops in the farming region of Sedgwick just 15 km south of Bendigo and was well promoted by the Trials Club of Victoria. The “Springs” venue features an almost endless array of amazing trials terrain with past promotions including the 2005 International Super Trial and the 2008 and 2013 Australian Trial Championships. The promoters were blessed with almost perfect Trials weather over the weekend which was well appreciated by the riders and also helped attract a bumper crowd of spectators, many witnessing this branch of the sport for the first time.
The Pre-65 or Classic class this year had enough entries to qualify for an officially endorsed Motorcycling Australia Championship thanks to the 7 riders that entered. Riders in this class competed over 3 laps of 15 sections each day, riding section splits or alternatives that were specifically designed to suit this category of motorcycle trial competition. The end results indicated the section setters got it right with only one DNF recorded due to mechanical failure. The riders who took part in the Pre ’65 section were Paul McGrath (NSW BSA Bantam), Peter Spencer (Vic Jawa 559 1963), Jordan Gollagher (Qld Triumph), Tim Lewis (Vic CZ 475 250cc), Dan Gollagher (Qld Triumph), Andrew Carpenter (Qld Jawa 1963) and Trevor Bennett (ACT CZ 175). The winner was Tim Lewis with 3 points lost, from Andrew Carpenter (12) and Peter Spence (33). The 2019 Australian Trial Championships will be held at “Mount Joy” Tasmania on the 12th and 13th October 2019.
