Bultaco Rally
Club Bultaco Australia Rally 16-18 November, 2018 – Bathurst, NSW
Club Bultaco has held a rally every year since the founding of the club in 1998 by Tony Ceglinski, the Club’s El Presidente up until he tragically died two years ago following a motorcycle accident. The first rally was held in 1999 on a property at Halfway Creek, north of Coff’s Harbour, the following year the rally moved to “Bimbadgen”, west of Coffs. In 2001 it moved to “Rivervale” near Braidwood (east of Canberra), then in 2002 back to Halfway Creek. From 2003 onwards it has been held at Rivervale, apart from three rallies that were held in conjunction with “Classic Dirt” at Conondale, NW of Brisbane and near Lithgow, NSW. The 2018 rally was at a 300 acre property just north of Bathurst, owned by Peter Robinson, an avid Bultaco enthusiast with a shed full of these bikes plus an assortment of others. The rally was based in a lovely treed valley through which ran a small creek and flanked with great trials riding hills. Elsewhere on the property is an old airstrip for drag racing, a scrambles track slashed out on the river flats and plenty of other areas to ride.
Most rally participants arrived on Friday, to make a long weekend of it. Well over 30 people attended, bringing with them 65 bikes – 59 Bultacos, 5 Montesas and a Gas Gas (where were all the Ossas?). The furthest travelled were Alan Yates and Sharlene Hoskin, from Mt Tambourine, Qld, it was great that they came so far. Nights were spent around the campfire where tall tales and beer flowed freely, the days were perfect for riding. On Saturday the 6 Metrallas and a lone Mercurio rode to the old gold mining town of Sofala for a few beers and lunch. It was a delightful ride through the picturesque hills on good twisty, winding roads. The rest of the weekend was spent riding around the property (no competitions/races) or just talking to old mates. It was a very successful rally. The Club would like to thank Peter for letting us use his property, he has agreed for us to have it there again in 2019 on (tentatively) 22 – 24 November.
