Mecum auction makes a motza

Held at the South Point Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas from January 22-26, 2019, the 28th Mecum Motorcycle Auction produced some astounding sales, with 235 of the more than 600 lots on offer coming from the MC Collection Stockholm. This was amassed over 50 years by Christer R. Christenss­on and covered the full gamut of motorcycle history, from a 1894 Hildebrand & Wolfmüller replica to bikes from the ‘nineties. One of this collection, a 1939 Crocker Big Tank, was knocked down for US$704,000 (Au$977,500). Other notable sales included a 1912 Henderson Model A for $US$302,500 (Au$420,000), a 1954 BMW Rennsport RS 54 for US$137,500 (Au$190,900), a 1925 Brough Superior SS100 Alpine Grand Sport for US$327,500 (Au$454800), 1988 Honda RC30 US$121,000 (Au$168,000), and a 1969 Velocette Thruxton with Avonair fairing US$41,800 (Au$55,000).
