Jeff Nield
New Zealand-born JEFF NIELD, who came to Australia in the late 1960s, passed away in late November. A colour photographic processor by trade, Nield found work with the John Smails’ Project Group, photographing Toyota models which were the group’s main PR client. He also branched into motor sport as a freelancer, supplying shots from NSW circuits such as Oran Park and Bathurst to Racing Car News magazine. In the days when most motor sport photography was still in black and white due mainly to available film speeds, Nield often worked in colour. In the early ‘seventies he covered events run by Vincent Tesoriero’s Forcefield Promotions, including the Mr Motocross Series, road racing at Amaroo Park and the Castrol Six Hour Race.
