Along with a few historic race meetings run around the country this is one of the must dos. The Historic Motor Cycle Racing Register of SA put together a slick show with plenty of racing for all those that come along. December 2018 was no different with some 40 odd races made up of nine rounds of races plus another five feature races.

One of the feature races was the Pre War/Hand shift race, this was won by Murray Johnson on his WLA Harley. Murray is really enjoying racing his WLA, the poor Manx gets left at home. The Ken Blake Memorial is always a big feature race and Simon Cook is always a favourite, this year the fastest of the classics were not here to pester Simon and the other similar machine of Eric Giggins got parked early with issues. Simon had to change an engine early in the weekend when he found a leaking gasket that was always going to be problematic. Simon went on to lower the Unlimited Period 4 track record.

Chris Hayward was another to lower track records, he did it on his SR 500 Period 5 bike, on an early lap of a race before running wide and coming off his machine. He was to do battle all weekend with father and son team of Glen and Neale Weddall and the spectators were treated to some spectacular racing.

Robert Dunstan rolled up with an ex ECCO BMW, but he and said bike never met any expectations, which was unfortunate for one and all. Danny Ahern’s first time out on his luscious sounding pristine TT2 Ducati 500 turned many heads and put lots of smiles on faces.

The various mix of races saw many a good dice both at the front as well as right through the field. Spectators were up this year from last which was great to see.

The results can be found at the www.historicmotorcycleracing.org. This year’s date for the titles is 28th and 29th December 2019.
