Miller backs Townsville

-

Moto GP rider Jack Miller has publically supported the plan to build a new permanent race track in his home town of Townsville, Queensland. The proposed location for the circuit is at Calcium, 40 km west of the city. The group behind the proposal is $18.3 million of investment to complete the project. The Mayor of Townsville, Jenny Hill, recently announced approval of the Development Application by DriveIT NQ to construct a motorsport facility on a 306 hectare site. While initial funding is in place, further investment is being sought to permit the full project, which includes a tar-sealed race circuit, drag strip, speedway, grandstands and other infrastructure.

The Federal government granted the DriveIT NQ group $5 million grant in 2018 to allow preliminary work to begin. This is expected to begin very soon and be completed by March 2020. DriveIT NQ claims the circuit would inject $35million into the local economy annually, and create 90 jobs during construction.
