Author Greg Pullen knows his stuff. His works include Ducati Desmodue, Moto Guzzi. The Complete story, Honda V4, and Ducati & the TT. He is also a consultant to Bonhams (auctions) collectors’ motorcycle department. This latest one deals only briefly with the major Italian marques because there have been so many books already written about them. Instead, the book explores the literally hundreds of manufacturers that have come and gone, some fondly remembered, others virtually forgotten. There are details of many of these, as well as an appendix listing lesser-known ones. The photography is of high quality – a mixture of studio and exterior shots. The author’s credentials allowed him to visit private collections and factories alike, including the fabulous Morbidelli Museum in Pesaro on Italy’s Adriatic Coast. The book is an outstanding reference for anyone with even a passing interest in Italian motorcycles.
