New promoter for Sydney Speed Festival

Old Bike Australasia - - BUZZ BOX -

The Classic Motorcycle Racing Club Inc. will take over the promotion of the biggest Historic racing event in New South Wales, which began in 1998 in the hands of Bob Blythe, who called his event the International Formula Four Stroke. Blythe continued as promoter until 2004, after which the Post Classic Racing Club of NSW took over, renaming the event the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed. In 2017 the event became the International Festival of Speed, as much a celebration of all aspects of historic/classic motorcycling as a race meeting. A similar meeting will continue under the stewardship of the newly-formed CMRC, with Peter Macmillan as event organiser. “We (the CMRC) hope that the Sydney event will be just one of the events on our schedule in the future,” says Peter. “We hope to be able to organise or assist with at least one other meeting, possibly in Queensland or Victoria. “We are talking to a major sponsor for the 2020 event and until that is decided we cannot announce an actual name for the meeting, but the date will be 19th to 22nd March at Sydney Motor Sport Park. 2020 is actually the 30th anniversary of SMSP (Eastern Creek) so we will be working hard to make it a memorable event. We hope to make more out of the Period 3, 4, 5 and 6 classes, as well as Two Strokes up to 1997, and continue the TT theme as the feature event.”
