Gary Reid
apologises for featuring Ron Toombs for two issues in a row, but this shot, taken at Hume Weir in 1972, is rather significant in that Ron is battling not only with the vastly experienced Kiwi Ginger Molloy (both on Yamaha TD2s), but also has his hands full with Gary Flood, aboard his father Bert’s TSS 250 Bultaco. Gary was at that time one of Australia’s best motocrossers, and was equally at home on the fast Victorian grass tracks where he usually rode Bultacos mounted in Hagon-style frames. He later diversified further and became a seriously good speedway rider, competing in the British League. A multi-talented man on anything with two wheels.
