Laverda Concours

31st Laverda Concours

- Report and photos Gaven Dall’Osto

Exceptional weather greeted the participants of the 31st running of the Laverda Concours. Crowd numbers were up 10% from 2018 to about 2,300. Judged bike numbers were also up by 40, to 150 entries and this year the $10 entry fee also covered entry of your bike for judging. 15 classes with three placings in each and 15 special judges’ awards meant there were around 60 trophies on offer with the Bike of the Show winner walking away with a cheque for $2000. The major prize was sponsored by Shannons Insurance, Redland City Council and Brisbane Motorcycles, and the remainder by 25 other generous sponsors. There was a special trophy provided by Oliver’s Motorcycles for the best Triumph Bonneville to celebrate its introduction 60 years ago. It was also the 50th Anniversary of the Honda 750 Four and so it was the featured bike for this year. The Honda CB750 Four SOHC Club displayed around 30 Honda Four machines covering every model (except for a Hondamatic) and was rewarded with the Best Club display.

The quality of the motorcycles was outstanding and bodes well for a continuing strong motorcycle community. Hats off to Graham Nedwich whose journey from Rockhampton saw him with a bundle of trophies including the coveted ‘Bike of the Show’. As always proceeds from the event were passed on to Club Laverda’s chosen charity, The Make a Wish Foundation, whose representative gave thanks to the club for its continuing support. It was an awesome day with a great bunch of people and congratulations to the trophy winners for making the effort to shine up their bikes and present them to the public. Thanks must be extended to the sponsors, event managers Bryan Horn and Derek Morwood, Club president Bruce and the Club Laverda members and friends for all their hard work in providing this iconic event.
