Italian parts heaven
During a recent trip to Germany, Mrs Editor and I called in to see our friends at Stein-Dinse, a company that from humble beginnings in 1983, has grown to be the largest distributor worldwide for Italian motorcycle parts.
Stein-Dinse was founded in 1983 by Hans Dieter Stein, and now has a staff of around 50 people. Based in Braunschweig, in the middle of Germany in Lower Saxony, the company operates from a 7,000 square metre warehouse, with more than 39,000 articles always in stock. The stock includes genuine and authentic reproduction parts for Moto Guzzi, Ducati, Aprilia and other Italian brands, as well as accessories from leading Italian manufacturers including Brembo, Dell’Orto, Rizoma, Tommaselli and Mistral exhaust systems.
As well as the massive warehouse complex, the Braunschweig site houses a large, modern retail showroom, with several of the owner’s treasured vintage and classic motorcycles on display. Mrs
Editor was immediately drawn to the rare Moto Guzzi Normale, but there are plenty of other glamorous machines on show.
Sales Manager Benedikt Viro says, “We developed our business through decades of trading, specialising in components and spare parts for the great Italian brands, and we offer almost every spare part for the current Italian models. In the case of older models, we offer numerous spare parts and accessories which are completely sold out in the market or are no longer available from other suppliers. Every two years we produce a new Stein-Dinse catalogue – only available in German language; the current issue is 648 pages with an overview of all major components, spare parts and many new products for Italian motorcycles, with technical details and prices.” The warehouse also contains ultra modern offices with departments for graphic design and individual offices servicing various national markets – each communicating in the appropriate language. In addition to servicing the European market, Stein-Dinse is increasingly focused on the
Australasian scene and welcomes enquiries from dealers.
We were given a very warm welcome and shown through this impressive, ultra modern facility and it was inspiring to learn of the development of this business. In one section of the warehouse is an extensive display of mouth-watering motorcycles, all of which are for sale on classic-superbikes.com. I wandered past some real beauties, including a 1978 TZ750D Yamaha, several Moto Guzzi Le Mans, an MV Agusta 750S America, innumerable Ducatis and even a BSA Rocket 3-engined Rickman Metisse. Chatting to various staff members, one thing that comes across loud and clear is the enthusiasm to the company ethos. It may be a cliché but this really is one big happy family and it’s easy to see why. More information can be seen on the website: www.stein-dinse.com
