Lions Club Bike Show

- Report and photos Rob Lewis and Peter Donnellan.

The first Sunday in November is traditionally the Lions Club Show on the Macclesfield Oval, 40 minutes south east of Adelaide. Thousands flock to this show to see everything from oldies to new custom bikes. Many rare machines are ridden to the venue where top food and refreshments are served from the footy and cricket clubs. Awards are made to the chosen bikes from several countries of manufacture. Trades and services are well represented as are clubs. The $5 admission charge is cheap for the great band playing top music, and it is a feel-good donation to charity. This is the 3rd year of the show which just keeps getting bigger.

The VJMC display quickly outgrew its allocated area and gradually expanded over the oval, mindful of the instruction to ‘keep off the cricket pitch’. The VJMC took out the Best Display award, with the shield being presented to Mick Godfrey. Best Japanese bike went to Allister Green for his 1973 Kawasaki Z1.
