Gerry Bassett

The Townsville, Queensland motorcycling fraternity lost a valuable member recently with the sad passing of

GERRY BASSETT, aged 72.

Born in South Africa, Gerry emigrated to Australia, where his love of motorcycles and the sport led him to become an MA official across most disciplines, being a Steward, Scrutineer, Clerk of Course, and Referee. He supported many young and upcoming junior and senior riders, by providing bikes, guidance and support financially, driving many thousands of miles from Townsville to Morgan Park, Phillip Island and the like. Gerry was also an accomplished pilot - not many people who knew Gerry were aware of this. His sardonic sense of humour will be missed trackside along with all his knowledge. Gerry is survived by his wife Donna, daughter Marche, and brother and sister.
