Old Bike Australasia

Inter interest?

-

FROM READER BILL MOLINE – I have recently bought and proceeded to dismantle a 1954 Model 30 Norton International. This has been a rather disappointing exercise and as a result I have need for some advice and parts. Do any readers have: a spare parts book for this bike? I am told there isn’t one in the known universe but I saw one myself at a swap meet about 25 years ago so they must exist. A diagram with measurements for one of these frames? I fear mine may be an early 88 with a numbers job done on it. Engine plate templates or drawings, I believe mine are badly homemade and are putting the gearbox and engine out of alignment with each other and the frame. Can anyone tell me if the width of the gearbox mounts is 84mm? I have a build sheet for the original bike as it left the factory and the gearbox has not got the same numbers. Does anyone know the distance between the crankshaft and the gearbox mainshaft at the extremes or mid travel? Does anyone know the modern equivalent of green/grey paint used on these bikes? I have waited over 50 years to obtain one of these bikes and would like to restore it to as near as possible original condition. Any and all information would be gratefully accepted.
