Bathurst Easter Tour

Vintage Motorcycle Club of NSW Easter Bathurst Tour

After the 2020 lapse, Bathurst Rally regulars, many of who have been attending the Easter Tour for decades, were champing at the bit for a return to the glorious country roads that host the eight-day event. After the floods and devastation of the previous weeks, the return of brilliant sunshine that remained for the entire event was indeed a blessing for the 150-odd entrants. True, there were a few extra potholes to dodge, but overall the conditions were perfect. The Tour began with the traditional ride to Trunkey Creek on Sunday, followed by Carcoar Dam, where members of the Newcastle Club fed everyone with their celebrated Taylor’s Tasty Terriers (hot dogs). Tuesday was a 150km ride to Burraga and back through Oberon, Chifley Dam on Wednesday for Hot Cross Buns, out to the historic village of Sofala on Thursday, and Tarana on Good Friday. The event wound up with a ride to Forrest Reefs on Saturday and Sofala again on Easter Sunday.

Although the veteran machines that used to be a feature of the Tour are fewer in number these days, there was nevertheless a healthy roll up with a vast variety of machinery, many of the entrants bringing more than one motorcycle. Credit must go to Lee Wright and his band of helpers for getting this very popular event back on the calendar after the problems of 2020. Despite dropping his Harley enroute to Chifley Dam and injuring his hands which necessitated a trip to Bathurst hospital, Lee was back at the organisational helm first thing on Thursday morning. “It reminded me that you should always wear gloves,” he ruefully admitted.
