Queensland Early Motorcycle Sports Club (QEMSC) held the annual “Carnell Classic” at Carnell Park Raceway at Stanthorpe on April 17 and 18. With over 100 riders and passengers attending from as far afield as South Australia, Victoria, NSW and North Queensland, it was a fantastic event featuring both solos and sidecars. QEMSC wishes to thank those who travelled so far to make the race meeting the success it was. Rain on Saturday caused some delays and minor incidents but by no means dampened riders’ enthusiasm. However Sunday dawned with bright blue sky and provided for some fast and exciting racing.

A busy program including Historics, Buckets, Motards and Sidecars gave the spectators a thrilling and very enjoyable weekend of racing. The Sidecar guys and gals in particular, provided some spectacular entertainment and should be applauded for their bravado. The tight little track is both exciting and challenging, especially for the three-wheel brigade. As always, the Non-Competitive class (regularity event) catered for those who just want to have a ride and “strut their stuff” or display some rare bikes such as the 1920 ABC 350 Flat Twin ridden by Guy Vickerman, along with two Norton Internationals and a Manx.

QEMSC’s next event will be the “Big Chill” at Carnell Park in July, followed by the Queensland Historic Road Race Championships at Warwick’s Morgan Park in September. (See the QEMSC website and Facebook page for entry details). We look forward to seeing you and guarantee a warm and friendly Queensland welcome.
