I can’t be the only one bitterly disappointed that I was unable to see the GOMA Exhibition; The Motorcycle, Design, Art, Desire in Brisbane before it closed. Every time I would make plans to do the trip, bang! The border was slammed shut. I guess the Gallery did a good job to even hold the exhibition under these frustrating circumstances. Still, I was able to enjoy the report and the wonderful photos in OBA 92, so that’s a lot better than nothing.

Join the club. I made plans several times to visit GOMA, only to be thwarted by the wildcat border closures and the threat of being trapped once in the state. The report to which you refer in OBA 92 was the work of Gaven Dall’Osto, but for some reason his by-line was omitted from the finished artwork. Gaven actually visited the Exhibition on several occasions and got to know the staff quite well. He told me that prior to the opening, many staff members were somewhat nervous of an invasion by blood-thirsty bikies, but several later told him that they found the patrons of the exhibition polite, well behaved, and passionate about their pet subject. Well done patrons, that’s the message we want to convey.
