Mac Park makes ready

-

After the disappointment of the 2020 cancellation due to COVID 19, McNamara Park at Mount Gambier is all set for the 2021 Australian Historic Road Racing Championships on the final weekend of October, as Alex Trovsky reports.

“It’s all systems go in preparing for the Nationals, including the paperwork required for a Covid management plan! We are working hard on securing a sponsor and hope to make an announcement about that soon. At this stage there will be an optional practice day on Thursday 28th October, with practice and qualifying on the 29th, and racing on the

30th and 31st. We will have entertainment (dinner and a band) on the Saturday night with full bar and catering facilities throughout the event. “We are hoping for 300 entrants. Interest has been strong from all over Australia. We will be running classes from Period 1 right up to Period 6 for solos, plus sidecars. There is plenty of on site camping, and we anticipate large crowd numbers. We still have a few infrastructure projects to finish but the facilities are looking great.”

The 2.4km Mac Park circuit has had extensive resurfacing work in recent years and is in top shape. The technical layout places the emphasis on fine handling and rider skill rather than outright horsepower, which makes it ideal for historic bikes. We will bring you updates in each issue of OBA as the big weekend gets closer.
