Trevor Flood

- TREVOR FLOOD

‘Seventies motocross legend passed away in April, aged 68.

Younger brother of the multi-talented Gary Flood and son of the legendary Bert, Trevor burst upon the scene in the Junior ranks which were the hotbed of young talent in Victoria in the early 1970s. When the Mr Motocross Series kicked off in 1974, Trevor and Englishman Malcolm Dearn battled through the three rounds of the series at Amaroo Park, with Trevor snatching the title in the final race. The first of Trevor’s six Australian Championships came at Wallan in 1972 when he took out both 250cc and 500cc titles on Bultacos. The 1973 500 Championship was next, followed by the Unlimited in 1974. Against all odds, he added the 1976 Unlimited title and the Duke of Edinburgh Award for the second time, riding a Maico at the Tivoli circuit in Queensland.

His natural talent overcame a general lack of fitness, but he fought to maintain a fighting weight throughout his career. Later he dabbled in road racing on a Yamaha TZ750, and ran numerous motorcycle-related businesses, including Gasit Motorcycles in Scoresby. In the early ‘eighties he formed Trevor Flood Racing and claimed the 1983 Mr Motocross series win with Ray Vandenberg riding. In later years he battled drug dependence and suffered serious health problems which ultimately claimed his life.
