Festival of Motorcycling back for 2021
Readers and riders will remember that last year’s “Festival of Motorcycling 2020” in South Australia had to be scaled back to “Motorcycle Ride Week” (MRW) due to Covid restrictions.
For 2021, the FOM is back and bigger, better and with even more to enjoy. We’ve added more events to the very successful MRW to bring it closer to the original Festival concept and to celebrate a new year of reduced border closures. The enhanced 8-day program, from the 2nd to 9th of October, still includes all the great rides of MRW, including “Track Day” at Mallala, but with additional events held in the historic Port Adelaide precinct. These include “Meet and Greet” for entrants and officials at the historic Semaphore Carousel. “Cavalcade of Motorcycles” featuring machines from the last century to today.
“Speaker’s Corner “where the public can listen to stories about motorcycling in South Australia over the last century. Engine starts of racing machines and rare old timers will also be part of the day. A static display of a “Century of Motorcycling” featuring Australian-Made motorcycles and a “Show and Shine”. The week of fun will still include the Veteran and Vintage Motorcycle Club’s
“Motorcycle Only” Swap Meet and Show, and the V&V will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of this renowned and successful event. Another anniversary held concurrent with FOM 2021 is the Veteran and Vintage Motorcycle Club’s 65th Anniversary Rally. The inaugural V&V club meeting was held on the 29th November 1956. The Club has a long and proud tradition of holding Anniversary Rallies every 5 years. The rally will be based at picturesque Mannum in the same location as last year’s MRW Mannum Ride Day.
