Old Bike Australasia

Out & About Here, there & everywhere

I have a friend (Gino) who has a passion for Italian machinery. His four-wheeled passion is with Ferrari and for two wheels it includes MV Agusta.

The Ferrari Club often has get-togethers which are sometimes social as well as drive days and recently arranged a meet at the local Segafreddo Zanetti for coffee and dolci. Gino extended the invitation to me so (not having a Ferrari) I decided to take my only red bike (Sophia the MV). I was a little apprehensive but pleasantly surprised at the genuine interest Sophia got from what turned out to be a very welcoming group of people. Mixing with the big boys could have fallen flat but this ended up a highlight. I took the opportunity to line up beside Gino’s 488 Pista for a few photos. The red on both is pretty much a perfect match and if you look closely, you will see the MV Agusta logo in the rear side window of the Pista. Two beautiful examples of Italian artistry.

Fast forward a couple of months and I invited Gino to the Phil Irving (historic motorcycle) Concours. He agreed and took his beautiful 1960 MV Agusta 150

Rapido Sport. It just so happened that the Ferrari Club were meeting for a coffee on top of Mt Gravatt before a drive to Crows Nest. Gino suggested we meet for a coffee before joining the Concours. It was a beautiful brisk morning watching the sun rise, the two MV’s cutting a nice foreground to the Brisbane city backdrop. The message from the experience is that automotive passion covers all genres. Whether it has two or four wheels it’s pleasing to know that we all appreciate, embrace and can be accepting of each other. Viva la passione.
