Longford Motorama 2022

- From Ken Young

Due to the outstanding success of the 2021 Longford Motorama in Tasmania, the organisers have decided to add an extra day with a twist.

To kick off the 2022 March Long weekend (12-14 March), the organisers have hired Symmons Plains so owners of bikes and cars of the era can demonstrate their vehicles with a little speed on to give the spectators the chance to not only see but to hear vehicles of the era. How many people have heard a British single or twin stretching its legs a little or the sound of a two-stroke twin under acceleration?

The bike side will not only be for race bikes of the era but will also be a chance for road bikes of the 1950s to 1960s to do some laps. Motorcycle man on the committee, Tony Oliver, is hoping to even have a few sidecars doing laps.

From the car side there should be everything from racing FJ Holdens to exotic sports cars and a few racing cars. All the action will be followed the next day back in the centre of Longford with a day of static displays as per last year, again including a parade lap around the streets of Longford and a chance to visit some of the remaining parts of the track. The 12th to 14th of March should be a great opportunity for mainland entrants and spectators to re-live the sights and sounds of the great Longford era and to enjoy a holiday in Tasmania. More information for participants can be obtained on the Longford Motorama site or the Tasmanian Motor Cycle Club site.
