Townsville track underway

-

Gary Ellem, president of the Road racing Association of Townsville, reports that work is finally underway on the construction of the long-awaited road racing circuit.

After seventeen years, the Drive-it consortium of Clubs has finally started moving dirt at the new 2.75km track 40km west of Townsville. The Contractors, BMD moved onto site on Monday the 27th September and have started moving dirt. The outline of the track has been graded, removed, and the topsoil from the track footprint has been stockpiled. This will be returned to the appropriate areas at the end of construction to facilitate regrowth of grass. BMD will now remove a further 600mm in preparation for the race surface. The track, depending on our wet season, will be operational in 2022, but BMD are saying four months construction time and then a curing time, so next year, we, the RRAT will be hosting events.
