Old Bike Australasia

Mrs Whitton’s bike

-

I was impressed with the coverage of the Honda 50 in OBA 97 and thought to share the history of our bike. This was purchased by my father in 1964 from Stan Stein Honda in Albury, for mother. Mother rode this in Canberra for some years, parking it under her window in the old Parliament House, where the staff had mounted a sign “Mrs Whitton’s Parking”. Mother rode it till the police suggested she retire it as it was too slow for the modern traffic.

I invited Freddie Spencer to autograph it at the (not the) Barry Sheene Festival at Eastern Creek and was used as the travelling lead bike in the parade. It is the signature bike for the Wollondilly Wanderer branch of the Ulysses Club and known as the Wolly bike, still in occasional use with only 2,500 miles on the clock. Phil Whitton via email
