1985 Suzuki GSX-R750
There were audible gasps when the GSX-R750 was released to the media at the
1984 IFMA Motorcycle Show in Cologne. The design brief was to produce a sports motorcycle that had substantial power and was as light as possible. With an all-aluminium chassis made up of castings and extrusions welded together, a dry weight of just 176kg was achieved. The power unit, using air/oil cooling which was officially called Suzuki Advanced Cooling System, poked out 106hp at 10,500 rpm and the whole package was wrapped in a fairing that presented the slimmest possible frontal area. The GSX-R750 was so well thought out, only minor changes were needed over the first four years of production when a new engine with an even shorter stroke came on stream. With scores of race victories and legions of satisfied owners worldwide, it’s no wonder the GSX-R750 is still a staple in the Suzuki range.
