It was a brave concept to bring a bunch of noisy cars and motorcycles to the Sydney suburb of Seaforth – smack in the middle of one of Sydney’s “boastcodes” overlooking the uber-exclusive Middle Harbour. Bruce Polain, proprietor of Polain Interiors in Seaforth and a keen motorsport fan, came up with the idea of co-opting the newlyformed Historic Sports and Racing Car Association (HSRCA) to put on a parade of significant vehicles around a 2.5km lap (covered twice) which ran down to the Spit Bridge and back up the steep hill, thereafter parked to form a colourful display. The first event ran in December 1982 and after a cautious start, continued until 1988.
Thanks to the recent lockdown, Bruce managed to put the story down on paper, and on CD, which captures the excitement of the glamorous event, from an age that is long gone.
