Maleny Swap

Welcome to Old Bike Australasia Out’n’about – a forum of people, places, history and happenings.

The 2022 Swap Meet 2022 at Maleny, hosted by HMCCQ Sunshine Coast Branch, lived up to all expectations.

It rained like crazy on the day before the swap causing people to rethink their plans. The combined rain over the previous week made the cricket oval unsuitable for many stands, but still a lot of people turned up on Friday afternoon and evening. The Maleny Lions Club food stand fed many of the campers on Friday night and most enjoyed the chance to socialize under cover. The day of the swap dawned foggy, (it is Maleny after all) but the rain held off and brisk trading started very early as vehicles streamed in the entrance gates.

There were quite a few complete bikes for sale and the Sunshine Coast Club offered a huge variety of magazines (some dating back to the 1970s) at bargain prices. The main pavilion provided a lot of undercover trading for several commercial operators. In addition, the Sunshine Coast club

Memorial Trophy was set up in there. The awarding of the trophy was decided by a vote from the public and the winner was

Peter May with his newly restored 1974

Trevor Fryer was responsible for the restoration and assembly of the bike.

The Sunshine Coast Club would like to thank all who braved the weather threat and attended. We hope you found the items you were seeking or at least managed to catch up with a few mates from somewhere else. Each year we receive feedback from attendees asking why we don’t have the Swap at a time of year less affected by rain. Several factors need to be considered – one is that the Maleny Showground is booked for quite a few events throughout the year. Secondly the busy calendar of the HMCCQ events limits the club’s options for change. Lastly is the fact it rains in Maleny more than some of the other venues. There has never been a dust problem at the Sunshine Coast’s Swap Meets! Hope to see you all next year.
