99 Not Out Rally
The Cootamundra Antique Motor Club staged the inaugural “99 Not Out” motorcycle run in March 2022; a rescheduled event from November last year due to Covid. In 2022, it will be 100 years since the original Cootamundra Motorcycle Club ran a time trial on similar roads and areas around the district. Hopefully after the pre-cursor, the 100th year Anniversary which will be run in November this year, will be bigger and better. We restricted bikes to 1947 as the cut-off manufacture date and 25 eager entrants set sail from the Cootamundra Showground in perfect weather conditions, waved off by Club stalwart and former motorcycle Dealer, Eddie Collingridge. The earliest bike was a 1911 Norton Veteran that was surprisingly quick! A 1935 New Hudson followed close by. The later model bikes were sent on their merry way 30 minutes later and travelled over some lovely undulating country for the morning tea stop 40kms up the road in Harden, supplied by the Harden CWA Ladies.
We then headed over some lovely back roads to Young, another 40 km casual ride, for a delicious BBQ lunch supplied by Young Rotary Club. We then headed back to Cootamundra on the same roads that our forefathers would have ridden over almost 100 years ago and completed the 135km total journey by 3:00pm. Dinner was at the local Ex-Services Club where we were joined by the Parent Club executive and their partners for the evening meal, presentations, and a history of the Motorcycle Club formed in 1914. Major prize winners were Laurie Deller, oldest bike/rider combination, Brad Martin, longest distance travelled, and Peter Leddin, hard luck award. We followed up on the Sunday with a coffee run to the nearby Village of Stockinbingal and return, 55km round trip. We look forward to hosting this run again in November, dates will be 19th and 20th, subject to local authority approval. Accommodation may be scarce so book early to secure the weekend. ■
