Festival of Motorcycling SA – 2022
The Festival of Motorcycling (FOMSA) team invites everyone to South Australia to enjoy a motorcycle-oriented week of events. Registrations are now open for the 2022 program, scheduled from October 1-9. To book, go to www.fomsa.org.
The curtain raiser for FOMSA week is a whole day ride though the Mid-North, which is designed for touring motorcycle enthusiasts. A back-up team will be present to deal with any mechanical issues that arise. This “Painted Silos”, event will take participants on a tour that encompasses visits to view the State’s giant murals in regional centres.
The program of six days of organised rides covers different scenery and attractions in the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula, Mid-North, Murray Land and Barossa Valley regions. The V&VMCCSA Motorcycle-Only Swap Meet at Balhannah, which is celebrating its 21st year, is included in the schedule.
The “Night of Champions” evening event on Wednesday 5th October will feature first-hand accounts of racing by motorsport greats, in an interactive format. The speakers will be Jim Scaysbrook (OAM), motocross and TT racer, and editor of Old Bike Australasia magazine; Gavin Porteous, Grand Prix sidecar racer, and Murray Johnson, motorcycle importer, historic-class racer, Grand Prix and drag racer. There will be historic race bikes on display, including an exMcCulloch Yamaha TZ500 and ex-Chaz Davies WSBK Ducati. These bikes will be started up as an auditory treat for fans. A light supper will be provided too. Tickets for this event are limited.
The Festival culminates in a “Cavalcade Parade” and two-day public display at Hart’s Mill, Port Adelaide, representing 120 years of motorcycle manufacture. A section showing Australian-made motorcycles and bicycles will be featured. Admission is by gold-coin donation. All proceeds from the Festival go to the medical research foundation, SAHMRI. ■
