Macna Equator Jacket

-

With a pending trip to Glen Innes from Brisbane in winter, I decided I’d better upgrade from my 20-year-old riding jacket. A quick perusal of winter gear drew my eyes to a Macna Equator jacket which ended up serving my purposes very well. The Equator has variable functionality but is aimed more at the winter rider rather than tropical use. It comes with a removable rain proof liner and a separate warm quilted liner. I departed Brisbane in mid-July with both liners in place as I knew our destination had been -3 degrees C two days before. The jacket was great; no water leaks and certainly warm in the somewhat dismal riding conditions.

The jacket features adjustable waist, sleeves and cuffs, various air vents for not-so-cold conditions – two pairs in the back and two in the front below the shoulders. Removable body armour is fitted in zipper compartments in the back, shoulders and elbows. There is a zipper in the bottom rear for connection to the matching Macna winter pants. There’s plenty of storage with two reasonably sized Velcro fastened, lined, waist-level pockets and another two zippered external and internal lined pockets at chest level in the jacket proper, with yet another wallet-sized pocket with separate coin compartment in the inner quilted winter liner. Behind the front waist pockets are easily accessible “hand warmer” pockets. The outer of the Dutch-designed jacket features Macna’s “Night Eye”, reflective material giving the jacket an extra night time safety feature without additional fluro additives. ■
